I boot up the game, and Professor Juniper asks me my name and gender. So, I tell her I'm a boy and that my name is Tyler. She then asks my friends and me, Cheren and Bianca, to choose the Pokémon we want to start our journey with.
After about three seconds of thinking it over, I chose Oshawott and named her Wendy. Cheren chose Snivy and Bianca chose Tepig.
The three of us then do the next rational thing; We had a fight to the death, which I won!
Seeing all of this and deciding that we are indeed worthy of exploring the Unova region on our own, the Professor gives us each our own Pokédex. She then asked us to meet her on Route 1.
After my friends and I left the Professor's Lab, my Mom stopped by and gave each of us a Town Map, so we wouldn't get lost and wished us luck on our adventure.
On Route 1, the Professor taught us how to catch a Pokémon and gave us a few Pokéballs to tie us over until we reached the next town.
Cheren and Bianca went on ahead while I searched for my first encounter.
I was elated to find a Lillipup that I named Beardy. I then made my way to the end o the route, where Cheren and Bianca were waiting for me. Then the Professor called us, asking why we had taken so long and needed to hurry. So the three of us finally entered Accumula Town.
I arrived in Accumula Town and decided to go to the Pokémon Center, where Professor Juniper was waiting for me. Since this was my first time visiting a Pokémon Center, she figured she would give me a tour. She showed me where I can heal my Pokémon, change what Pokémon I'm carrying with me, and where I can buy items that will come in handy if I'm ever in a tight spot.
After I stocked up on Pokéballs and Potions, I went to see Cheren, who asked me to watch these people give a speech. The speech was by the leader of Team Plasma about how people and Pokémon will never be equal because we catch them in Pokéballs and that we need to liberate Pokémon.
He and his followers packed up and left when he finished his speech. After that, everyone in town went back to there day to day tasks, except for a strange man with green hair and a black cap.
He told Cheren and me that his name was N and that he could hear my Pokémon talking. Then he challenged me to a fight with a Purrloin, and I defeated him.
Bianca
Defeating N was a piece of cake, so I casually strolled to Route 2 for the next Pokémon I could add to my team. As I approach the grass, however, I get a call from my Mom asking me how it's going and that she has one more gift for me. So we hang up, and then I see her walk out of the gate that leads from Accumula Town. Her last present is a pair of running shoes that allow me to run when I hold down the "B" button.
After wishing me luck for the last time, she goes home, and I dash into the grass, excited for my subsequent encounter. I searched and searched, then out of the grass appeared a Patrat. I don't really care for Patrat, but I'm not going to waste an encounter. So, I caught the Patrat and named it Crosswalk.
Making my way through the route, I battled a couple of other Trainers, defeating them. Finally, I had reached the end of the route, and, just as I was about to enter Striaton City, Bianca popped up out of nowhere and challenged me to a battle.
While I was distracted, she sent out her Lillipup, which I had Beardy and Crosswalk tag-team to take it out. They took minimal damage, so I left Crosswalk out when she sent out her Tepig. However, after seeing that Crosswalk was not dealing enough damage and having its defense lowered twice, I switched out for Wendy. I had her use Water Gun, which knocked the Tepig into the yellow. After that, I felt pretty confident until Bianca had her Tepig use Tackle, which almost killed Wendy! I was shocked but not worried because I knew Wendy was faster, so I had her use Tackle, which ended the fight.
She congratulated me on the win and let me go into Striaton City.
Arriving in Striaton City, I healed up my Pokémon. Then, I went to the Dreamyard to train and get a free Pokémon from a shady lady at the end of the field that would help me defeat the Gym Leader.
Feeling good about the run so far, I challenged the first Trainer, Lass Eri, who has two Purrloin. She sent out the first of her Purrloin, which Crosswalk handled well, but he was low on health, so I switched to Wendy. She was doing phenomenally against her last Pokémon until it landed two crits in a row and killed Wendy. After that, I was frozen with shock; my starter, which I loved, died because of my tragic luck. I sent Beardy out to finish the Purrloin. I had a small memorial for Wendy before heading back to the Dreamyard, defeating the other Trainer, and getting the free Pokémon. It was a Pansear that I named Dan.
Cheren
After losing my starter to an evil cat, I decided to train my Pokémon on Route 2 so something like this would never happen again. Unfortunately, I almost had another funeral to prepare for when Crosswalk was left with 1 HP after taking a crit from a wild Patrat. After that near-miss of an oncoming train, I went to the Trainer School searching for the Gym Leader. I talked to the students milling about it, but they hadn't seen him. Finally, I saw Cheren standing at the blackboard, so I decided to ask him. He told me that he was just there and that I must have missed him. But while I was there, he asked me if I wanted to battle him so he could try out a strategy he had been working on. Of course, I agreed, and the battle started.
He sent out his starter, Snivy, and it lowered my defense, and Dan, to my surprise, retaliated by killing it with a crit one-shot! So, when he sent out his Purrloin, I was ready to end this quickly. But, unfortunately, I was humbled real quick when Crosswalk was almost killed by a critical hit again! However, Crosswalk redeemed itself by killing it the next turn.
Cheren congratulated me and gave me some Oran Berries for my battle against the Gym Leader, and I went on my way.
[Part 1]
After my victory against Cheren, I felt confident taking on the Striaton Gym. Opening the door, I realized that, besides being a Gym, the building also acted as a restaurant. The Gym Trainers were the wait staff, and the Gym Leaders were the chefs. A man was standing just to the right of the door when I entered, and he gave me a Fresh Water (when a Pokémon drinks it, it restores 50HP).
After thanking him, I decided to make my way through the Gym, but I hit a bit of a snag. A red curtain with a flame embroidered on it separated the restaurant. In front of it were three plates built into the floor, a green one with a leaf, a red one with a flame, and a blue one with a water drop. Thinking this was a matching thing, I walked on to the red button. I heard a *click* but nothing happened, so I thought about it and noticed my mistake; I needed to press the button that was super effective against the curtain. The curtain had a flame on it, so I walked over to the blue button, and I heard a *click* and the curtain parted.
Excited, I threw caution to the wind and ran forward and was immediately spotted by one of the wait staff, who challenged me to a battle. Waiter Maxwell sent out a Lilipup. I sent out Dan and had him use Incinerate, which did bearly anything, so I switched to Beardy. Beardy was fighting like an absolute mad man until the opposing Lilipup landed a crit Tackle and left him with one HP. However, it was okay because Beardy managed to land the finishing blow to the Lilipup. I took my prize money and went on my way.
Striaton Gym
[Part 2]
The Trio Badge
I continued making my way through the Gym, opening the other curtains and defeating the other wait staff. I finally made it to the Gym Leader...or Leaders. It turns out that the Gym Leaders are brothers. Chili, who uses Fire-type Pokémon; Cilan, who uses Grass-type Pokémon; and Cress, who uses Water-type Pokémon. You only have to battle one of them. Your opponent is determined by which starter you choose. Since I decided on Oshawott (RIP Wendy), I had to face Cilan. I took a deep breath and started the fight.
Cilan started out with a Lillipup (why everyone has the same Pokémon with them is beyond me), and I started with Dan. Unfortunately, Cilan's Lillipup used Work Up, which made me nervous. If you don't know, Work Up is a Status move that raises the user's Attack and Special Attack, meaning that I needed to kill this thing quickly. Since Dan has the worst offensive stats, I switched in Beardy, who dealt a fair amount of damage with Tackle. I anticipated Cilan to use Tackle, but he didn't; he had his Lillipup use Work Up...again! I was sweating at this point! Any attack from this hairy dog would undoubtedly kill me instantly! But I had to press on. I had Beardy use Tackle again, which surprisingly killed it with a crit.
Cilan then sent out his last Pokémon, Pansage. Pansage is the same...kind...of Pokémon as Dan, just that it's Grass-type, not Fire-type. That's great for me since Fire beats Grass, so I sent Dan back out. Pansage starts the battle with Work Up which, anxiety rising. Dan used Incinerate, which dealt modest damage, and Pansage used, can you guess, Work Up. It didn't matter because Dan used Incinerate one last time and killed Pansage.
After taking no damage, Cilan (I have no idea what he was doing in that battle) gave me the Trio Badge and sent me on my way.
